The European Film Academy (EFA) announced the nominees for its 21st film awards, which will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark on December 6th 2008.

Italian movies Il Divo and Gomorra received five nomination each. They premiered at Cannes film festival where they received an award for for second and third place. El Orfanato, last year Spain’s candidate for foreign language oscar, got four nominations and an extra one for People’s Choice Award.

From 1991 The Gotham Awards have been presented by Independent Feature Project (IFP). The association was founded in 1979 as a side program of The New York Film Festival, and today represents the larges organization of independent filmmakers with more than 5000 members.

Gotham Awards are similar to Independent’s Spirit Awards, which will release their nominations on December 2nd. The same day the 18th annual Gotham Awards will take place in Cipriani Wall Street Hall in New York. Among the guests, there will be four recipients of honorary awards: Spanish actress Penelope Cruz, documentary filmmaker Sheila Nevins; director, screenwriter, producer and “one of the godfathers of independent movie making” Melvin Van Peebles, as well as Gus Van Sant.
